API / AYP/ STAR Reports for 2007
The results of the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) for the Wright District show the percentage of our students who achieved proficient or advanced on the California Standards Test (CST) that was taken in spring 2007. The Academic Performance Index (API) is a California measure that looks at growth in school performance. It is a three digit number between 200-1000, with 800 being the goal for all schools. The assessments that are used to make up the API are the CST, given to students in grades 2 – 6, and the CAT-6, given to students in 3rd grade. Each year there is a target to achieve based on what the score was in the previous year. It is usually a five point increase, with the eventual goal to reach 800. The Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is a federal measure which looks at the percentage of students who took the CST and achieved proficient or advanced on it. The goal is to have at least 95% of students take the CST annually and for 100% of students be proficient in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math by 2014. There are “percent proficient” targets which are raised each year with the goal of 100% by 2014. In 2007 the target in ELA was 24.4% at or above proficient and in Math 26.5% at or above proficient. This target is not only for the total number of students who took the test, but also for “significant” subgroups. For the District this means any subgroup that had at least 100 students, and for each school it is a significant subgroup if there are at least 50 students.
