  • Good Morning Parents, Staff and Students -

Wright Elementary District schools will be open today.  The AQI in our area is in the 170 - 190 range.  Rainy day schedules will be used. I look forward to improved air quality next week.

Thank you to everyone in the Wright School District community for your incredible flexibility this week.  I know it has been hard.  In my thoughts this morning are the people of Paradise, most of whom have no school to go back to, and how hard the coming weeks and months will be for them.  When the time is right, I will reach out to their County Office Office Ed to see how we can help with surplus materials, textbooks, etc.

Also in the coming weeks and months, I look forward to revisiting and revising the County Air Quality Guidelines in a more patient and deliberative manner.

Thank you again and please have a wonderful holiday -

  • We have been tracking data from the Bay Area Air Quality District sensor in Sebastopol all day. Between 11 AM and 3 PM the AQI number jumped from 89 (moderate) to 155 (unhealthy). We will continue to watch this and purpleair.com into the night and will make a call about school by 6AM tomorrow morning.

  • Dear Wright Families, Staff and Students -

JX Wilson, RL Stevens, and Wright Charter plan to be open tomorrow.   Rainy-day schedules will be used and children will be kept indoors.

The Sonoma County Office of Education has issued a “Sonoma County Schools Air Quality Guidelines” document for Districts to use in determining school closures.  The guidelines, which were developed in collaboration with Sonoma County Health Dept. officials and District Superintendents, recommend school closure if the AQI reaches 275. At this time we are in the 160 - 180 range (depending on website consulted).

I will check air quality again at 5AM, however unless the air quality worsens significantly over night, we will open.

I know how difficult these school closures can be on families and we take these decisions very seriously.

Classrooms have been cleaned and, as a precaution, air filters are being replaced.  Playground equipment, outdoor tables and benches will all be washed prior to students return outdoors.

  • Dear WESD Families, Students, and Staff

I’ve been watching the Air Quality numbers climb all night, from the “unhealthy” zone, into the “very unhealthy” zone. At this point, it does not seem possible that the air quality will improve between now and tomorrow morning.

WESD schools will be closed tomorrow. I will be in touch about Wednesday as soon as we have information to base a decision on.

  • Dear WESD Families, Students, and Staff

At this time WESD schools will be open Tuesday, November 13, 2018. RLS, JXW, and WCS will move outdoor activities, such as P.E. and recess, indoors. We will continue to monitor the air quality index (AQI) throughout the night.

Should it become necessary to close school on Tuesday, we will notify staff and families via text/email/phone as soon as possible.

Information will also be posted on our website.
